DISCLAIMER: This is NOT a pregnancy announcement.

"I wouldn't let my big brother do anything stupid, alone." - Unknown

I'm Pregnant... (in April 2021)

Let me be clear, this is taking a look at my pregnancy announcement for Nolan in the summer of 2021.

My sweet baby Nolan is turning one tomorrow (December 30, 2022) and I just wanted to share what it was like getting pregnant, and being pregnant during the pandemic.

But first, the announcement and the big brother.

Roman was just around 18-months old when I announced I was pregnant with Nolan. We were so excited to know he was going to be a big brother, whether he understood it or not.

Looking back, he obviously didn't understand at all. But present day, I think he's enjoying, albeit when Nolan isn't trying to steal his toys, more and more.

Pregnant and a Pandemic

We took precautions of course. I wore masks when necessary, and stayed away from anyone who was sick. But it wasn't the pandemic that really affected me, or my mental health, at least with this pregnancy.

The pregnancy was difficult. At 10 almost 11 weeks pregnant I had my first ultrasound. The ultrasound tech, started the process and going through it before I knew what to expect. This, was different. She wasn't talking, and kept taking pictures. Finally, I broke the silence with this, "Is something wrong?"

After a few moments, and more pictures, she turned the monitor around and showed me. Twins. Only, one was much smaller than the other, not moving, and no heartbeat. I had lost one of the babies.

It was a mix of emotions. Grief, relief, sadness, confusion and guilt. Twins run in my family. My younger brother had twins, my great aunt had twins, my cousin had twins, and my mom had twins. My younger brother a twin, but she lost his sibling just like I lost Nolan's.

Then at 20 weeks, the ultrasound showed an abnormality. Something called "Velamentous Cord Insertion." Click the link to find out more.

So, because of all that, and being a high risk pregnancy, we hunkered down, and isolated even more.
